Australia wins a thrilling match to take the series lead over India!
Australia beat India by 184 runs in a thrilling conclusion to the fourth Test in Melbourne to take a 2-1 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
India were set a target of 340 in 92 overs and batted cautiously throughout, showing little intent to chase down the victory.
Jaiswal scored 1478 runs at an average of 54.74 including three centuries and nine fifties in 15 matches this year. His highest score this year was 214 not out against England earlier this year.
Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal appeared determined to secure a hard-fought draw for India after the top order faltered, leaving the tourists at 33-3. However, he was caught behind off Pat Cummins for 84 off 208 balls, with 21 overs remaining.
Jaiswal had earlier fought through a wicketless afternoon session alongside wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who scored 30 off 104 balls. They were the only batters to reach double figures.
Pant's departure after tea triggered the collapse, as he lost patience and slogged Travis Head to long-on for another reckless dismissal.
Cummins and Scott Boland claimed three wickets each, while spinner Nathan Lyon took two after his batting heroics, having been dismissed for 41 in the second over of the day as Australia were all out for 234.
In front of a record crowd for a Test match in Australia, with 373,691 spectators at the MCG over five days, captain Cummins delivered a masterclass both with the ball and in his tactics to secure the victory.
India's openers, Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma, started cautiously, setting the tone for the team's approach. They reached 25-0 from 16 overs, with just 12 scoring shots in the first 90 balls.
However Cummins' double-wicket maiden in the 17th over burst the door open for Australia, as Rohit edged to gully for nine and KL Rahul was caught at slip for a duck.
Three more maidens followed before Mitchell Starc dismissed Virat Kohli for five on the verge of lunch, leaving India firmly on the back foot.
